MineAfrica hosts inaugural Vancouver Seminar

June 18, 2008 - The Fairmont Hotel was the setting for MineAfrica's initial venture into Vancouver with its Investing in African Mining seminar on June 17. The keynote address by the Fraser Institute provided an insightful ranking of African countries as mining investment destinations based on 13 policy factors including taxation, regulation and land claims. Presenting companies covered the diverse geographic scope of Africa (including Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, the DRC, Mali, Republic of Congo, South Africa and Sudan) with equally diverse and exciting projects in copper, nickel, energy, gold, potash, uranium. MineAfrica Principal Bruce Shapiro delivers keynote address at African Mining Congress in South Africa

June 10, 2008 - Bruce Shapiro, who is also the President of the Canada-South Africa Chamber of Business, delivered a keynote address "A Canadian Perspective on Africa's Mining Industry" at the African Mining Congress today in Johannesburg, South Africa. The annual conference focuses on exploration and investment in mining industry and brings together junior and senior mining executives, government and regulators, banks and financiers. This unique Special Report on "Mining in Africa" will be inserted in the February 2009 issue of Canadian Business magazine and mailed to 81,000 paid subscribers of Canadian Business magazine (total readership for Canadian Business magazine is one million). Chamber Seminar on Risk Mitigation and Corporate Social Responsibility in Africa draws 75 participants and rave reviews

June 4, 2008 - 75 participants heard firsthand from experts on how to mitigate risk and implement effective CSR programs in Africa during a well received full day seminar on June 2 in Toronto. Topics included security issues, mitigating risk through legal, insurance and communications, reducing your carbon footprint, human rights and case studies on successful CSR programs in Africa by Canadian companies. The seminar was organized by the Canada-South Africa Chamber of Business, supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and sponsored by MineAfrica.

May 28, 2008 - Prominent South African mining executive Gordon Miller, Chief Executive Officer of First Uranium Corporation and Simmer and Jack Mines Limited will deliver the keynote address at the Canada-South Africa Chamber of Business 10th Annual Mining Breakfast on Tuesday March 3, 2009 during PDAC. The 2008 breakfast sold out with 300 participants and, combined with MineAfrica's Investing in African Mining Seminar which immediately follows the breakfast, is the premier African focussed mining event in Canada.

Traffic has grown steadily over the past six months and over that period has averaged 1,000 unique visitors, 1,515 visits and 5,458 pages viewed each month.

March 1, 2008 - Rainmakers and Potstirrers, a new book published by MineAfrica media partner miningmx, listing South Africa's top mining people will be introduced in Canada at the Canada-South Africa Chamber of Business Mining Breakfast. Meet Canadian Trade Commissioners from Africa at the International Mining Café during PDAC

January 24, 2008 - Organized by The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), this unique event on Wed. March 5 will provide an opportunity to meet one-on-one with Trade Commissioners from Africa and other mining jurisdictions around the world, as well as representatives from Export Development Canada (EDC), the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM), 48th North International, and the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE).

Key African mining jurisdictions to be represented include Algeria, Burkina Faso, DRC, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
This is a free event and you do not have to be registered with PDAC 2008 to attend.

African Infrastructure Seminar profiles Canadian companies' multi-billion dollar investments in Africa

October 17, 2007 - The Canada-South Africa Chamber of Business and the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade put on a half-day seminar featuring Canadian led mega-infrastructure projects currently underway in Africa. The session was chaired by MineAfrica principal Wayne Floreani and included presentations by Alcan (Coega aluminum smelter), Bombardier (Gautrain rail project), CIC Energy (Botswana power station and coal mine), Hatch (Transnet ports and rail), MagIndustries (hydroelectric station in the DRC), SNC-Lavalin (pebble bed nuclear reactor), Sherritt and SNC-Lavalin (Amatovy nickel project in Madagascar). EDC and IFC discussed their financing support for African projects. South Africa's High Commissioner to Canada, Dr. Abraham Nkomo delivered introductory remarks.
