    Understanding the Mining Industry: From A to Z

    Summarized Course Outline
    Day 1: General industry overview; Basic terms and concepts; Introduction to geology, minerals, and metals with a guided global tour of major mining operations; Ore deposit models; Exploration methods; Project evaluation techniques and methods; Hands on lessons in interpreting press releases and company data.

    Day 2: Mining and processing methods and associated costs; Resources and reserve categories and their requirements; Resource estimation techniques; Valuation techniques and hands-on demonstrations for approaching asset models.

    Day 3: Listing process; Equities and investing; Metals markets; Pricing in illiquid markets, Financing methods; Off-take arrangements.

    COURSE INSTRUCTOR
    Glenn Brown
    Glenn Brown has investigated resource investments in over forty countries and has analyzed exploration and development projects in uranium, gold, silver, diamonds, and base metals for over 25 years. He was professor of Geology and Geological Engineering at the University of Toronto from December 1988 to May 1997 and thereafter joined Canaccord Capital Corp as a senior mining analyst until April 1999. He started the Toronto office of Haywood Securities in 1999. Glenn continued as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto until 2007 before moving full time to Boswell Capital. Glenn holds a BSc in Geology and a PhD in Geology and Geophysics. He taught a series of lectures for non-technical people called "Mining Explained".

    He is the Founding Partner and President of Boswell Capital, a Toronto based Exempt Market Dealer providing corporate finance solutions and analytical support to both public and private firms in the mining, petroleum, and infrastructure businesses.

    In 2002 the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum awarded Glenn the Past President's Memorial Medal "In recognition of his long-established reputation as an educator of geology to students, mining professionals and investors, and for setting an outstanding example to young men and women contemplating a career in the mineral industry."
